The putter is used for around half the shots in a round of golf and it goes without saying that a solid and consistent putting stroke is vital to achieving low scores. You might be an expert with your driver, long irons and short irons, but it is on the putting green where the game is won and lost. It is essential to master the art of putting and this article gives you five golf putting tips to help you do this.

1)  We all want to sink the long putts, but realistically it’s not very likely. So you need to think about where you want to leave the ball to give you a good chance of holing the next putt. For example, if you’re faced with a twenty-five foot uphill putt it would make sense to leave the ball a little short to leave a simple uphill putt for your next shot rather than race ten feet past to leave a tricky downhill putt. In most cases, when faced with a 25 foot or more putt, try to get the ball to stop within a couple of feet of the hole. This helps eliminate three-putting and every once in a while you’ll actually find you sink the long putt!

2)  This golf putting tip addresses one of the major causes of missed putts – moving your head too soon. Try not looking up until you hear the ball drop into the hole. It won’t always of course but certainly with the shorter putts if you wait for the sound of the ball falling into the cup it means you’ll be more likely to keep your head still. You’ll find the ball drops into the hole a lot more than you’ve been used to.

3)  Another important golf putting tip is that your eyes should be directly over the ball when you’re addressing it. Your chances of putting consistently are slim if you are either bending too far forward so that your eyes are looking down from beyond the ball or if your stance is too upright and you’re looking at the ball from between the ball and your feet.

These are just a few of the many golf putting tips which can help you with developing a consistent putting stroke. When you start putting these golf putting tips into practice you will begin to notice that you are taking fewer shots on the green and therefore lowering your score. You must take action though. Practice is the key to consistent putting, so regularly practice these golf putting tips and watch how your score tumbles.
